A fun and engaging DIY project for kids to create colorful crystal letters using baking soda, water, and food coloring.

Ingredients

  • Baking soda
  • Water
  • Food coloring
  • Small containers
  • Popsicle sticks or toothpicks

Instructions

  1. Prepare your containers – Start by choosing how many letters you want to create and gather enough containers.
  2. Mix the solution – In a bowl, combine about 1 cup of baking soda with 1/2 cup of water until you have a thick paste.
  3. Add color – Separate the mixture into individual containers and add a few drops of food coloring to each, stirring well.
  4. Shape your letters – Using a popsicle stick or toothpick, shape the letters of the acrostics in the mixture, ensuring they are clearly defined.
  5. Let them set – Allow the letters to sit undisturbed for at least 24 hours to dry and form crystals.
  6. Reveal your creations – Once dry, carefully remove the letters from the containers. You might need to gently pull them away from the sides.

Notes

For best results, ensure that the baking soda and water mixture is thick. Keep a damp cloth handy for quick clean-ups.
