A fun and educational DIY project for kids to create glow-in-the-dark moon rocks that bounce.

Ingredients

  • White school glue (PVA), 4 ounces
  • Water, room temperature
  • Borax powder or commercial crosslinkers (optional)
  • Phosphorescent glow powder (non-toxic)
  • Fine cornstarch or arrowroot, 1–2 tablespoons
  • Small mixing bowls and spoons
  • Measuring spoons and a small scale (optional)
  • Gloves (optional)
  • A tray lined with parchment or a soft towel
  • A shallow bowl or jar for charging
  • A small airtight container for storage

Instructions

  1. Gather your tools and lay them out. If you prefer, wear gloves to keep your hands clean.
  2. Pour 4 ounces of white glue into a bowl. Add one tablespoon of water and swirl until smooth.
  3. Sprinkle in a teaspoon of glow powder. Stir slowly until the powder blends evenly into the glue mixture.
  4. Add one tablespoon of cornstarch and mix until thickened.
  5. Prepare your borax solution by dissolving half a teaspoon in one cup of warm water.
  6. Slowly add the borax solution while stirring continuously.
  7. Scoop the clump onto your tray and knead it until smooth.
  8. Shape the dough into pebble shapes.
  9. Charge the rocks under a lamp or in sunlight for 5 to 20 minutes.
  10. Let the rocks rest for an hour before storing or using.

Notes

Feel free to customize the moon rocks with color or different textures.
