A fun and colorful DIY project to create a vibrant suncatcher from melted crayons, perfect for all ages.

Ingredients

  • Assorted crayons (your choice of colors)
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Cookie cutter (haunted house shape)
  • Heat-resistant oven
  • Wax paper or transparency sheets for layering
  • Scissors
  • Optional: string or fishing line for hanging
  • Optional: additional decorations (e.g., stickers, glitter)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Carefully peel the wrappers off the crayons and break them into small pieces.
  3. Place the broken crayon pieces inside the cookie cutter on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Once the oven is ready, carefully place the baking sheet inside and allow the crayons to melt for about 10-15 minutes.
  5. After removing the melted crayons from the oven, let them cool slightly.
  6. Once completely cooled, gently remove the suncatcher from the cookie cutter.
  7. If you wish to add layers, cut out a piece of wax paper or a transparency sheet and secure it behind your suncatcher.
  8. Create a way to hang your suncatcher using string or fishing line.

Notes

Encourage kids to mix and match colors for a more vibrant effect. Ensure adult supervision during the melting step.
