A fun and engaging craft project that teaches kids about color chromatography while creating beautiful butterflies.

Ingredients

  • 5 pieces White Coffee Filters
  • 10 pieces Washable Markers
  • 1 unit Spray Bottle
  • 5 pieces Pipe Cleaners
  • 1 unit Tray or Baking Sheet
  • 1 pack Googly Eyes (optional)
  • 1 pack Glitter (optional)
  • 1 pack Stickers (optional)

Instructions

  1. Flatten each coffee filter into a circle on the tray.
  2. Draw several dots with washable markers across the top and center.
  3. Mist the colored filters lightly with the spray bottle.
  4. Allow the filters to dry flat on the tray or a dry surface.
  5. Once dry, pinch each filter gently at the center.
  6. Wrap a pipe cleaner around the pinched center and twist to secure.
  7. Add googly eyes and optional decorations like glitter or stickers.
  8. Allow any glue to set before handling and display the butterflies.

Notes

This project is perfect for preschoolers through elementary aged kids and introduces concepts of cause and effect through color mixing.
